The William Faulkner – William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition is one of America’s leading literary competitions and has been presenting awards in fiction, nonfiction and poetry since 1993.[1] The event is sponsored by the Pirate’s Alley Faulkner Society of New Orleans, Louisiana.[2] The contest draws celebrity literary judges, and regular participants have included John Biguenet, Stuart Dybek and Bret Lott.[3]
The award has been instrumental in launching the careers of many emerging writers, including Moira Crone,[4] Julia Glass,[5] Jacob M. Appel and Lynn Stegner.[6]
The Society was established in 1990 in honor of Nobel Laurerate William Faulkner.
This is a classic novel destined to be read as much as Flannery O’Conner’s. We believe in her writing and will take it to the top. www.johnniebernhardauthor.com Represented by Loiacono Literary Agency https://loiaconoliteraryagency.com/authors/johnnie-bernhard (manuscript is available for acquisition, represented by Jeanie Loiacono)
A Good Girl
Have you ever wondered why you are the way you are?
In order to forgive her dying father, Gracey Reiter immerses herself into the chaotic gene pool of the Walsh-Mueller clan, only to find herself and the family she spent years running from.
Gracey Mueller Reiter’s great-great-grandmother, Patricia Walsh, came over in 1847, starving, on a coffin ship from Ireland and ended up in Houston, Texas married to Emil Mueller, a first generation German immigrant. Six sons and a legacy…
Facing a catalyst—a past confronted, the present slipping away and the unknown, intimidating future—she can’t do a thing about the past, except accept it for what it was…her father’s alcoholism, her mother’s infidelity and soul-searching, and her siblings “realities.” Imminent death lurks. And yet, in the midst of it all, histories come full-circle, revealing both lies and truths. What once was, will be again, repeating itself…or does the buck stop here?
An all-encompassing novel that penetrates the core beings of all who read it, A Good Girl pulls back the skin to reveal the raw actualities of life, love and relationships, told with candor and honesty.
