“Lord Do You Listen When A Warrior Prays?”

I ‘m a U.S. soldier twenty-four seven
I worry can a warrior get to heaven?
I’m far from home and scared most days.
Lord, do you listen when a warrior prays
Back home, I’m told, not many are sure
that what we are doing is worth this tour.
Some say it’s our fault this land’s ablaze
Lord, do you listen when a warrior prays
Some say we fight for a peoples’ freedom
Others that it’s all for political reason
But the children greet us with hope in their gaze
Lord, do you listen when a warrior prays
I’m trained to kill and kill I do
But the boy beside me is bleeding too
I tell him help’s just a little ways
Lord, do you listen when a warrior prays
I hold him, try to smile but he’s all bloody
Don’t leave me, don’t leave me, you’re my buddy
But his eyes don’t focus, he’s in a daze
Lord, do you listen when a warrior prays
I hand him over to a combat medic
They are the heroes, deserve all the credit
Back to the fight, my rifle I raise
Lord, do you listen when a warrior prays
They volunteered to serve the U.S.A.
As long as they’re needed they’re gonna’ stay
It’s always young soldiers that lead the way
Please Lord listen when our warriors pray.

New Release! Colorfully illustrated book available to help parents and family members understand more about connecting with their autistic child and sibling. Drawing Sylvia: An Autistic Child Speaks
Drawing Sylvia: An Autistic Child Speaks encourages developing unique strategies for parents in relating to their autistic children.
Kal-Ba Publishing is proud to announce the release of Drawing Sylvia: An Autistic Child Speaks by Katherine Yu, the mother of Sylvia who is diagnosed with autism.
Statistics show that over a million families in the USA have an autistic child at home, and this number increases each year. More than 3,000,000 Americans are affected by ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder) while there are tens of millions of autistic people worldwide.
Author, screenplay writer, editor, TV/film producer and mother to three beautiful daughters, Katherine Yu has written this book to help other parents in the same situation. She understands the worries, fears, confusion, anger, denial, frustration and other emotions autistic children’s parents feel.
Refusing to acquiesce, she faced the challenge and was able to unlock Sylvia’s world through art. At age three, Katherine put colored-pencils and paper in front of Sylvia (now ten-years-old) who began to express herself through drawing, proving to be a monumental break-through.
The author encourages parents to fight for their children who are not able to speak for themselves. They will discover which keys will unlock their world—art, music, touch, dance, pets—enabling them to communicate the same way Katherine Yu was able to for Sylvia.
Kal-Ba Publishing is honored to be able to offer Drawing Sylvia: An Autistic Child Speaks by Katherine Yu this spring.

I am the coordinator of Irish Cultural/Educational programs at an Irish Center in The Capitol of New York State. I had a special interest in reading Shanty Gold since the author Jeanne Charters is presenting her book at our September 23rd 2015 meeting. I was not disappointed since the book is a great story about the experiences of many of our Irish relatives who came to the United States at the height of the Irish Famine 1845 to 1855, the coffin ships many found transport in, the rape and slaughter they faced, and finally the perseverance needed to survive in Boston Massachusetts where no Irish need to apply for jobs. The central characters Mary Boland and Kamua Okafor, a black boy, had similar horrendous experiences from a society with rampant prejudices. The book achieved its purpose better in many ways of getting you in touch with the Irish experience compared to a lecture covering the same topics. I look forward to the two books which are to follow completing this trilogy of Irish immigrant pain, strength and success. Books like this prove that historic fiction can be one of the many avenues to enjoy the culture and history of people.

An outstanding review for Please Say Kaddish for Me by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields, published by Argus Publishing
By J Hays
I have long been a fan of the historical fiction genre, in part because I can get a more personal view of past events than what might be presented in history books. Having said that, Please Say Kaddish For Me goes way beyond just illuminating a terrible chapter in Jewish history. I suspect many people today know little, if anything, about the pogroms that preceded the holocaust of WWII. With this novel the historical aspect is clearly well-researched. But the characters that illustrate this history are so real that I found it hard to put the book down. I needed to know that Havah would survive, that she would hopefully find her happiness. But it wasn’t just Havah that drew me in, it was Arel, and Ulrich, and Nikolai…and all the other members of this group whether family or acquaintances. Every character is strongly drawn and fully three-dimensional, complete with the personal complexities inherent in all of us. It has been a while since I have read a book that was a real page-turner but this most assuredly was. Wonderful book.
Loiacono Literary Agency’s Johnnie Bernhard takes on Ian McLean’s historical fiction Legend of Shane McLean – Quest for Vengeance!
Legend of Shane McLean – Quest for Vengeance
At sixteen, Frank “Shane” McLean covets a commission in the Texas Rangers. With the shadow of civil war on the country’s doorstep, he uncovers a dark family secret. His God-fearing father Kirby is an Illuminati henchman and hired assassin for the secret society. Kirby is responsible for the death of a renegade Freemason with ties to Governor Sam Houston. A staunch Freemason and secret Illuminati, Houston hires bounty hunters who kill Kirby in front of his wife and son.
Shane begins a violent life of revenge for his father’s death and as a member of Terry’s Texas Rangers in the Civil War. The battles of Shiloh, Antietam, and Gettysburg leave him wounded and emotionally scarred, while his inner demons cry for vengeance.
Quest for Vengeance is the first in an action/adventure series detailing Shane’s lifelong pursuit to punish the men who made him a widow’s son.
Ian McLean is a freelance writer and member of the Houston Writers Guild. He was born in Long Beach, California and graduated from University High School in Waco, Texas. A love of literature led him to Sam Houston State University where he played football and excelled in storytelling. For the past twenty-five years, he has devoted his life to teaching and coaching high school and middle school athletes. In 2010, Ian entered Legend of Shane McLean in a HWG writing contest and was named a finalist. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association and Texas Federation of Teachers. Ian is a husband and proud father of three.
He is currently working on the sequel, Curse of the Gun. Represented by Johnnie Bernhard Johnnie.B@llallc.net https://loiaconoliteraryagency.com/authors/ian-mclean
“A thin stream of smoke issued through Hershel’s pursed lips. ‘Practical wisdom is one thing, Rebbe, but study of the Holy Writings is quite another. Some things are not meant to be. I ask you, if we start sending our daughters to Heder, who will cook and take care of the home?’ He wagged his finger under Arel’s nose. ‘Would you want your wife studying at your side instead of raising your children?’”
~~taken from Please Say Kaddish for Me by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields A Cantor
In the beginning of the story, Cantor Hershel Levine’s ideas about women seem rigid and traditional. While his arranged marriage to Fruma Ya’el is a union of mutual tolerance, the demons from his past keep it from being a happy one. He finds his greatest joy and treasure in their daughter, Gittel whom he refers to as the sweetest of flittering birds.
As a firm believer in tzedakah, religious and moral obligation, he readily takes on the role of Havah’s legal guardian. Nothing like Gittel, Havah challenges his convictions and eventually wins his heart.
