Rolled steel, humility and love

7

My boot’s sole drove hard against the rolled edge of steel. Leveraging the handle I broke loose the sod, pushing it over, exposing damp humus to the sun. I was disrupting the lives of thousands and they fled desperately from my sight. Forcing the spade again into the dirt I lifted it to the side. A message of terror was being spread in the earth below me, “The end of the world is upon us.” I honor all life. And so, hoping, praying for as little death as possible I hesitantly continued my task. Life, the highest expression of an expanding universe. We seek it beyond our blue orb driven by wonder if we are alone in the reaches of space. Alone in eternity. Yet, here beneath my feet was the miracle of multitudes of beings. Amazing creatures like you and I, brought into being by the wondrous work of the Great Mystery. A mystery to which we have ascribed many names, Eternal Mind, Jehovah, God, Brahma, Allah, the Beginning and the End, Gichi Manidoo, Father. Names expressing awe, meant to leave us humble but in love. This mystery in many beings, this myriad of forms expressed in levels of consciousness only the Creator understands, is precious beyond measure. Each form and individual a beautiful revelation flowing from the infinite Divine, conveying a manifestation of the heart of God. It was here between white pine and oak that I had decided to return the body of my friend to the earth, to allow the physical elements of his expression to be reunited with their source. He was a four-legged, given to chasing down ducks and pheasants, riding in the passenger seat and frequently offering curled lips and a snarl to strangers. He had passed on in the night while sleeping by my bed. I helped him go, resting my hands on his side and head, looking into his eyes as the fire left. I wrapped him in his blanket and waited for daybreak. It took only 20 minutes and a spot in the lap of our Mother had been dug. I lifted him into the grave. Tears and memories uniting with each shovel of earth gently resting on his body. With the passing of years, five friends now lay together in the earth. It is always the same; the mystery of what lies beyond, the inability to grasp life’s brevity, hope and love for the preciousness of life in all its forms. These questions, emotions, flow from the aura of my heart and overshadow my mind. Thanking Creator for the gift and experience of his life, I breathe deep to re-gather my being. I offer tobacco, bow my head and turn toward home. One thing and one thing only do I know as I leave his resting place brokenhearted with spade in hand – humility and love are my close companions.

ONE WORLD  –  ONE FAMILY OF MAN  –  ONE CREATOR OF ALL

On this day of your life, I believe God wants you to know that the opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.

On this day of your life, I believe God wants you to know that the opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth.

Niels Bohr said that, and he was right. In fact, there have been few statements in the history of statement-
making that were more accurate than that one. So be aware and stay awake! The Law of Opposites
sometimes leads you to a Divine Dichotomy.

Two opposing truths can exist simultaneously in the same space. Do not therefore assume that That Which Opposes You is That Which Is Not Good For You. It may be just the reverse.

Ozarks Writers League quarterly meeting!

Greetings OWL Members!

It was a beautiful weekend at the Ozarks Writers League quarterly meeting!  We enjoyed a fun-filled evening on Friday at the historic Olde English Inn, with more than 50 enjoying a delicious dinner, captivating readings from new and seasoned authors, and an in-depth critique session for those in need of some manuscript support.

Saturday was a blaze of activity, with our panel discussion of editors and agents, followed by the annual auction.  More than $2,250 was raised for the OWL fund, and more than a few laughs were shared.  The box lunch allowed everyone extra time to visit before launching into the afternoon’s speakers, agent pitches, and manuscript critiques.

If you missed a moment of the activities (or just want to relive some of your favorites), view the video montage at:

Maryann Wakefield, author of A Gentle Sun Coming, in Serious Condition after Accident

Maryann Wakefield, author of A Gentle Sun Coming, in Serious Condition after Accident

012 - Copy - Copy

Author Maryann Wakefield fell in her driveway last Monday. She got out of her car, tripped on her flip flops, and wound up on the concrete with a serious head injury. In coma since then, she was moved from ICU into a room yesterday. She’s breathing on her own now and showing signs of improvement each day. She has a large knot on her forehead and one eye is still swollen shut, but two days ago she opened the other eye and told her husband, Larry, that she loved him.

This past weekend she was to attend the annual conference of Ozark Writers League in Hollister, Missouri until her unfortunate accident landed her in a hospital bed. Everyone there was shocked and saddened when they heard the news. She was picked-up by Loiacono Literary Agency when she pitched her manuscript for A Gentle Sun Coming at that very conference two years ago. All are sending prayers and positive thoughts her way.

We will keep you posted. You may send her well wishes to annieswake@sbcglobal.net .  www.loiaconoliteraryagency.com

Champagne Book Group acquires Backwoods Justice, the sequel to Shadows On Iron Mountain by Chuck Walsh!

ChuckWalsh

Chuck Walsh’s long-awaited sequel to the Tennessee thriller Shadows On Iron Mountain, Backwoods Justice, has been acquired by Champagne Book Group, a Canadian publisher www.champagnebooks.com/ with three imprints: Champagne, Carnal Passions and Burst. Champagne Books is an independent small press located in High River, AB Canada.

Backwoods Justice — the law on Iron Mountain, a treacherous stretch on the Appalachian Trail in Tennessee.

Iron Mountain

It is happening again.

On a quiet afternoon, Ruben Sawyer, his daughter, Jolene, and his granddaughter, Christina, are fishing Doe Creek. One minute Christina is there, the next… not. All he sees is a glimpse and a muffled cry.

Christina.

Sawyer had helped Thomas Jordan track and put to rights the psycho killer on Iron Mountain two years before. Now, the tables are turned.

Bloody messages are left with donor corpses along the AT, a scavanger hunt of sorts —the deadly kind.

All they want is Sawyer.

All he wants is backwoods justice.                                         .

Chuck Walsh is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, and discovered a passion for writing in 2004. Since then, he has written human-interest articles for a dozen publications and co-authored Faces of Freedom (featured on Sean Hannity’s book list), a book that recognizes the noble lives of U.S. soldiers who died while fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. Shadows On Iron Mountain, also published by Champagne is scheduled for release September 2014. A Month of Tomorrowsand A Passage Back are being published by Vinspire Publishing (release dates 2014/2015 respectively). On this day of your life, I believe God wants you to know that every day is a new beginning, and that nothing from yesterday has to affect who you are today.

On this day of your life, I believe God wants you to know that every day is a new beginning, and that nothing from yesterday has to affect who you are today.

It does no good at all to bemoan what you may have done on a day prior to today — or even, for that matter, a moment ago. You don’t have to carry that into the Present Moment, nor is your guilt about it going to do you any good at good.

Simply resolve to become a different version of yourself right here, right now. Use yesterday to inspire
tomorrow, not to discourage it.

What are the odds that you would ever find a fighter escort pilot who flew with you on a combat mission?  They are great, but it can happen and did.

Tom Simmons’ The Man Called Brown Condor is about John Robinson who co-founded the Tuskegee Air Institute which trained The Red Tails. A must read.
