JDMCCULLOUGH SOG-E

Our speaker will be Douglas McCullough, co-author of a book published last September, Sea of Greed:  The Investigation and Prosecution of Manual Antonia Noriega.  Taking a quote off the Amazon website, here is the story in a nutshell!

“When the Coast Guard halted a Gulf Coast Shrimp trawler near Cape Lookout, North Carolina on the fourth of July weekend in 1982, the routine stop set into motion a chain of events that ended with the U.S. invasion of Panama, the overthrow of dictator, Manual Noriega, and the biggest drug bust in America’s history.

Now, more than thirty years later, the full story is told in a gripping, true life account by the man who brought the drug lord to justice.  J. Douglas McCullough, the U.S. attorney who unraveled the Cayman Island Cartel, reveals never before known facts of the case that began on the docks in the historic fishing village of Beaufort, North Carolina, when authorities found a shrimp boat full of marijuana.”

Most of us are aware of this period in history, but not aware of the remarkable undercover investigation that led up to the invasion and war.  This story uses sources such as the original FBI files, witness testimonies, U.S. Senate hearings and recollections of the government enforcement officials involved to include informants.  Even more amazing is that this is a true story!
